In one of the French texts, I came across the phrase 'plat de résistance'. I am not sure what it means.
Is is the main dish or main course in English?
From the context, it looks more like a starter: Elle peut être salée ou sucrée, plat de résistance, principal, ou dessert.

Plat de résistance and plat principal are the same, it's the main course.
- Entrée
- Plat de résistance/principal
- Dessert
In the text you mention, she only says "plat de résistance ou dessert", we usually start with crêpes with egg ham and cheese (la complète), a classic. And we finish with something like a chocolate bananas, so a crêpe dessert :) a wonder
