In one of the French texts, I came across the phrase 'plat de résistance'. I am not sure what it means. Is is the main dish or main course in English? From the context, it looks more like a starter: Elle peut être salée ou sucrée, plat de résistance, principal, ou dessert.

Plat de résistance and plat principal are the same, it's the main course.

In the text you mention, she only says "plat de résistance ou dessert", we usually start with crêpes with egg ham and cheese (la complète), a classic. And we finish with something like a chocolate bananas, so a crêpe dessert :) a wonder
