Hello Sandra, thanks for you question. Cheers has got at least two different meanings. You can say Cheers! when having a drink but also you can say cheers! instead of thanks.

Of course, in Polish language that would be two different phrases depending on the meaning...

Since both meanings are very popular, can you please let me know how to say cheers in both situations?

So, when proposing a toast or clinking glasses, Polish people say Na zdrowie or Zdrowie which means For your health.

When it is a birthday, pepole also say Sto lat which means One hundred years (you wish somebody that they live until they are a hundred years old).

In British English, cheers also means thanks. In Polish language for that occasion you say dzięki Like in English, this is somehow informal expression.

Yes, I am sure, I am Polish after all 😀 Polish and Russian languages are similar and it happens that cheers is Polish is pretty much the same as it is in Russian.

You are right, cheers in Polish language is pretty much the same as in Russian. It is written there as За здоровье! and it literally means: To your health!

A couple of years ago I watched the Deer Hunter and this is exactly what they say. Not sure if it is Polish though...
