I would like to learn French while playing some video games. Can you recommend some good titles for me? I think there should be a lot of dialogues and/or descriptions. Maybe something similar to Skyrim?

RPGs and adventure games contain a lot of dialogues so they're good indeed. Skyrim could work I guess, I never played it myself. I played some Pokemon personally to improve, I can have it on my phone and the text is quite basic. Maybe the Assasin's Creed could help as well, there is one taking place in Paris :) (Unity). Maybe you could play games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or the Zelda's. You don't always have the audio in French, check that before. You have for the Assassin's Creed for sure.

You can go check some MMORPGs, there is a lot of text, can be with audio and sometimes you get to choose what server you wanna be in, if you pick a French one you'll get to interact with French people through the chat to complete quests. I played quite a lot Star Wars The Old Republic, I liked it, you have all the things I mentionned before, text, audio and interaction. I played some SoulWorker in English (Japanese audio though), it helped me to discover many expressions. These are free games, the classic of this kind of game is obviously World of Warcraft but it's 20 euros a month.

There are many other possibilites, maybe you can try a point and click like the Baphomet's knights (I guess that's the English name) or some games very oriented towards one area, I learnt a lot about football vocabulary in English and Spanish thanks to the FIFA games.

I did some research in the meantime to find best games to learn French and I think I have 3 good games. It is not so easy to find good games with French audio for some reason. Many developers just to English version and subtitles in a few main languages. But, after some digging, I found 3 first games with audio I may use to learn French. They are: Skyrim, Witcher 3 and Dishonored.

Please write below if you know any other worth playing games that would help with learning French.

I think the games with open world can be great might be quite useful to learn French. They usually offer some kind of main story but also quite a few side quests so there is a lot of opportunity to read and listen to French. Here are my favourite titles: LA Noir, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Watch Dogs (2), Dragon Age, Red Dead Redemption (1 and 2). I learn the language at the moment but I never thought about playing video games as a way to improve French 😯

A few days ago my friend Marvin let me know about another nice game in French, potentially good for learning the language. It was Runaway, cook point and click adventure game available also in French. I have thought about it and came to the conclusion that such games (point and click or adventure) are for several reasons very good for learning the language.

In the majority of games there is a certain plot, characters and dialogues. Also, you need to solve some puzzles and that requires manipulating many things in the game and a lot of repetition. So, you will listen to the same words or sentences many times - perfect for learning French and other languages.

Since then, I have identified a few more good games in French (they have both French subtitles and audio): Broken sword, New beginning and Black Mirror.

There are probably many more such games but these got me interested.

Because of the price, I have bought these games on gog.com but there are also available on Steam. One more thing, I noticed that sometimes a game on one platform has got full French language but on other platform may lack audio. So, if somebody is interested in buying games in French, they should make sure the game has French audio or search elsewhere.
